European Logistics Network Service, full redesign

A single source of truth for linehaul planners to manage daily, detailed planning of land transport operations across Europe.

01

Overview

The European Logistics Network Service is an internal tool used daily by linehaul planners to create and manage transportation plans across Europe. It supports the detailed planning of linehauls — direct, terminal-to-terminal transport flows. Designed for high-frequency operations across multiple countries, the platform enables planners to efficiently coordinate resources, optimize routes, and maintain control over a complex, time-sensitive planning process.

02

My Role

As the Lead UX/UI Designer, I was responsible for a full-cycle product redesign, focusing on simplifying the planning process, modernizing the interface, and improving usability across the platform.

My scope included:

UX audit of the existing interface

Persona development

Prototyping & design

User research & stakeholder interviews

Journey mapping & information architecture

Usability testing and iterations

03

Design Process

We followed a Design Thinking framework to guide our work:

At each stage, we embedded:

  • Rapid prototyping — tested modular layouts and interactions early with analysts and planners

  • Continuous feedback loops — weekly stakeholder reviews enabled constant refinement

  • Cross-functional collaboration — worked closely with engineers, analysts, and the QA team to ensure design feasibility and implementation fidelity

This process helped us turn complex workflows into a streamlined, usable system.

Problems

Solutions

No in-house design expertise
Product decisions were made without UX training or structured input.

UX led by data, not guesswork
User feedback and client interviews informed better design decisions.

Non-linear planning flow
Users could skip required steps, leading to incomplete or invalid plans.

Structured, step-by-step flow
Enforced proper planning order and prevented invalid configurations.

Outdated, inconsistent interface
Redundant fields, nested accordions, and legacy elements slowed down planning.

Modern, cohesive product experience
A modern, unified experience was delivered using the internal design system to boost usability and visual consistency.

Unclear user flow
Unclear hierarchy and grouping made it hard to understand where to start for inexperienced planners.

Intuitive flow
Improved interface hierarchy helped new users navigate with ease.

Fragmented and inefficient tour creation
No clear overview of tours, making it difficult to adjust and validate plans quickly.

Integrated map and route overview
Simplified tour creation with a clear visual summary and drag-and-drop flexibility.

UI Design

Step-by-Step Planning Flow
A structured process replaced nested accordions, guiding planners through required steps in order and reducing invalid plans.

Streamlined and Consistent UI
Redundant fields and legacy inputs were removed, creating a cleaner layout that speeds up navigation and lowers cognitive load.

Integrated Route Overview
A new map view and simplified tour creation interface provided planners with a clear visual overview of routes and flexibility for adjustments.

Daily Linehaul Execution: Simplified & Streamlined

Redundant columns consolidated into a single view, reducing cognitive load and making daily planning more efficient.

Takeaways

Efficiency

A structured flow and reduced redundancy make planning faster, easier, and less error-prone.

Clarity

Better navigation and clearer information architecture help planners quickly find what they need and make the tool easier to learn.

Confidence

Built-in validation and feedback give planners reassurance that their plans are correct and reliable.

Business Value

The redesign aligns with business goals and KPIs, delivering more value for both users and stakeholders.

Reflections

Working on this project reminded me of the importance of staying close to users, as their feedback guided every decision we made. That process also showed me the critical importance of collaboration with stakeholders—their involvement turned challenges into shared goals and kept the product moving in the right direction.

As a result, I saw firsthand that simplifying complex systems doesn’t just improve efficiency, it also helps people feel more confident in their work. And while delivering on user needs, I also learned that it is essential to balance those needs with business goals.
